One of  The Parisian Flair’s favorite movie is “Les enfants du Paradis Children of Paradise, which tells the story of beautiful Garance, and the four men who love her in their own ways. How can you not love Garance Staehli? At a the age of 7, she finds her passion: DANCING! She gets noticed by Maurizio Mandorino, dancer and choreographer of Swiss city of Neuchâtel. She joins his company and decides she wants to become a professional dancer.

After she graduates from High School, she joins the famous school Northern School of Contemporary Dance where she auditioned successfully a few months ago and graduates with a Bachelor’s degree “1st class honours degree”. She is given the nickname “the Warrior”, which conveys her motivation and strength.  In England she is lucky  to work with choreographers such as Andile Sotyia, Riccardo Menenghini, Alexander Whitley, Tiia Ourila, Gary Clarke, Dane Hurst…  She makes the decision to bring her career to the next level and moves to New York City to study at the Martha Graham Dance School and the renowned Alvin Ailey School. “The Warrior” stands out of the competitive crowd of NY dancers and is currently working with Amalgamate Dance Company . She is also involved in numerous projects for different dancers and choreographers, notably with Diane Mc Carthy, Belinda He, Charlotte Colmant…Beautiful Garance is also spotted in modelling and works regularly for different photographers, including Eric Magnan and others. She occasionally participates in film shoots in which she dances and performs.

Bonjour chère Garance, why should our readers follow your work? I hope I can encourage dancers to pursue their dreams of dancing professionally in a big competitive city like New York. Especially those like me, who come from such a small city. If they believe in it and maintain a purpose in spite of obstacles then anything is possible ! The magic recipe: hard work, perseverance and confidence.

Any future projects? I am currently dancing for Amalgamate Dance Company and recently performed in the premier of « All Things Being Equal ». I am very excited to have joined the company and I can’t wait to work on future projects. We have new creations coming up this fall and in Spring 2018. I am also starting rehearsal soon with dance artist Charlotte Colmant.

How do you feel about PARIS? PARISIANS? It’s pure cliché, yet I believe Paris has a genuine elegance and charm. It’s a true symbol for its history, culture and arts. As for Parisians, although they can seem pretentious and cold, it’s part of their appeal. I often feel intrigued by them.

What is the « PARISIAN FLAIR » for you? A contrast of warmth & coldness, of arrogance & openness.

How do you LOVE? What is the French way of LOVING? Three words to define my way of loving: Compassion, intensity & passion. French people have this ability to completely  transform themselves when they fall in love. They become vulnerable and lose their layer of arrogance over kindness.

Your dream? Dancing for the Batsheva dance company. (And The Parisian Flair wishes you the best!!)

The best gift you ever received? At the age of 18, when I left Switzerland to move to England, my friends and family crafted this gigantic book including our memories and pictures with loving handwritten notes. I knew I wouldn’t be back soon! I was committed to travelling around the world to dance professionally. Eight years after, I am still dancing my heart out far from home and feeling fulfilled! Switzerland remains in my soul.

Your “Madeleine de Proust”? Everything brings back memories! I often say I lived three different lives. When I compare my time in Switzerland, in England and now in the US, each experience taught me something new, releaving a different side of my personality. I love to say to people I meet during my wonderful journey : « you are all a little part of me now ».
