Sfar was born in Nice, France. The Parisian Flair decided to focus on his work of art which are comic books. From 2009 to 2010, Sfar wrote and directed Gainsbourg: Une Vie Heroique, a biopic of the iconic French songwriter and singer. The Parisian Flair gives 4 stars to Joann Sfar’s fable movie. Perfectly acted, the lead character Serge Gainsbourg played by actor Eric Elmosnino truly deserved the César Award for best actor for his terrific performance. It’s as if “Gainsbarre”(familiar name for Gainsbourg) was still Alive! His voice, his attitude, the way he holds himself, his eyes and especially his strong character feature, his nose. Joann draws a satire of Jewish people in the movie. Lucien Ginsburg (Serge’s real name) experienced World War Two  and therefore the nazis. The movie is a modern tale. The lead character is represented by his “subconscious”, a Jewish puppet in the fantasy world he builds. Why is this film part of our “must see” selection? Well, the location and the different places shown throughout the movie possess a very Parisian Flair. Montmartre and its stairs, the old candy store “la confiserie à l’ancienne”and the Raspoutine (a trendy Parisian nightclub). Most of all, the references to French artists and writers everyone should know about :

-  Charles Baudelaire with  his masterpiece “les Fleurs du Mal” /  “The Flowers of Evil” and a focus on his poem “le serpent qui danse”/”The dancing serpent”

- The famous French singers Charles Aznavour, France Gall and Georges Brassens

- The writer Boris Vian and the poet Jacques Prévert

- A sublime Juliette Greco played by the sexy and gorgeous Anna Mouglalis

- Laetitia Casta plays Brigitte Bardot

- The flair “Caroline Tillette”  plays a mesmerizing lady in red

We promise you, you will fall in love with the French icon (if not already a fan of Serge). Even though he was criticized for his heavy drinking and smoking, Serge is a national emblem. His lyrics are deep, poetic, filled with allegories, oxymorons and other style figures. He is truly one of the best French musicians and songwriters of the last century.
